Day of Mantel Care - a moment to thank heroes!
Every year on 10 November, we celebrate the Day of Mantel Care. A day created to put the many informal carers in the Netherlands in the spotlight and thank them for their indispensable commitment. Mantel carers are often the silent forces behind the care for a family member, friend or neighbour, offering daily support to people who desperately need it. It is work that often comes from the heart, but can sometimes be tough. Therefore, this special day is a great moment to show our appreciation.ย
The history of Mantel Care Day
About 20 years ago, MantelzorgNL took the initiative for the Day of Mantelcare. The idea was born to give more attention and recognition to the many people who, sometimes without anyone realising it, are ready for their loved ones. It is estimated that there are more than 5 million informal carers in the Netherlands. They are people of all ages who care for a partner, parent, child or friend, often alongside their work, studies or other responsibilities.
The aim of the day is to take carers out of the shadows for a while and let them know that their efforts are seen and appreciated. Activities are therefore organised all over the country to put them in the limelight, from convivial gatherings to small gifts.
Surprise and thank with a small gift
There are several ways to let inform informal carers that you appreciate their efforts. Sometimes words alone are not enough, and a small gesture can say more than a thousand words. We have some ideas for thank-you gifts that are perfect to give on Carer's Day:
- Chocolate thank yous
Who doesn't love chocolate? A delicious treat that always goes down well. Our chocolate thank yous are available in different shapes and flavours, such as the Toblerone and Mini Merci chocolates. All packaging can be personalised with a personal message, making it an extra special gift. For example, think of a box Celebrations with the text "Thank you for your warmth and care!".
ย ย ย 2. Printed confectionery
It is possible to printed candy, such as peppermints or lollipops with a thank-you text or an organisation's logo. This way, you give something that is not only tasty, but also has a personal touch. This is ideal to hand out on Carer's Day or to surprise carers at home.
ย ย 3. Letterbox gifts
We have a wide range of letterbox gifts. A tea package, cinema gift or a bottle of prosecco, there is something for everyone! Choose a letterbox gift and personalise it to your liking. For example, put a nice message in it to express your appreciation.
A small gesture, a big effect!
On Carer's Day, it is not about big gifts, but about the gesture. Showing that you think of someone and appreciate their efforts is often enough to put a smile on a carer's face. Whether it is with chocolate, tea or printed sweets, the most important thing is that they feel seen and appreciated.
